Huaraz - Ancash

Trekking Cordillera Blanca

In this journey it’s easy to enjoy the valley and the Llanganuco Lake, the snowy Huascarán, Huandoy, Chopicalqui and Yanapaccha, where this lagoon is appreciated by its turquoise green color.


  • Spicy guinea pig: cooked on wood and seasoned with red or yellow pepper.
  • Cuchicanca: suckling pig in vinegar and baked, served with boiled potatoes and mote (dry boiled corn).
  • Tamales: corn dough filled with meat wrapped in achira leaf.
  • Charqui: dried pork meat.
  • Llunca de gallina: broth or chicken soup with wheat.
  • Pecan broth: lamb head broth with tripe.

Atractivos Turísticos

  • Archaeological remains of Waullac: dates from the pre-Inca period, belongs to the Wari period, it is believed that it has been a place of funerary use composed of 5 stone structures that resemble small niches.
  • Sanctuary of the Lord of Solitude: keeps the image of the Lord of Solitude, patron saint of Huaraz whose image dates from the sixteenth century.
  • Archaeological remains of Willcahuain or Ichic Willcahuain: Wari architecture (700 - 1100 a.d.C.) characterized its buildings by an internal network of galleries located 7 km. of Huaraz. There are other snows from that area.
  • Chancos thermal baths: located in the Province of Carhuaz, 35 km. of Huaraz northward, reach temperatures of up to 74ºc with thermo-medicinal properties, there are caves - saunas and pools.
  • Cañon del Pato: north of Huaraz, is the place where the Cordilleras Negra and Blanca are closer to each other, has almost 1000 m. In depth, the Cañón del Pato hydroelectric power station is located.
  • Chavín de Huantar: Province of Huari, located 109 km. of Huaraz, built 1200 a.c. discovered in 1919, it is a World Cultural Heritage conformed by ceremonial precincts and pyramids with huge stone blocks. The temple consists of several underground galleries also characterized by their heads nails and the Lanzon, stone of 4.52 m. tall, carved with feline motifs, birds and snakes.
  • Sanctuary of Mama Ashu: located in Chacas, province of Asunción, built in 1587, characterized by its 2 bell towers, carved gate, as well as its cheers and armchairs inside which is the image of the Virgin.
